We have an opening for a Group Dental Underwriter that may work from any of our Anthem offices, but, preferred to work from a Georgia location. This position may be filled as Group Underwriter II, Senior or Consultant level.  The level will be determined in accordance the incumbent’s education, experience and skill-set relationship to the position. 
The Group Dental Underwriter I, II, Senior or Consultant will be responsible for determining acceptability of dental insurance risks and appropriate premium rates for large, complex renewal and prospect employer groups in accordance with Corporate Underwriting Guidelines and Authority Limits. Primary duties to include, but are not limited to:
  • Calculates dental renewal rates for complex group cases based on thorough analysis of the group's experience, industry, location, size, and demographic nature.
  • Coordinates with other departments to ensure the accuracy and consistency of account reporting.
  • Proposes rates and terms for group dental prospects, utilizing a combination of other carrier experience, demographic data and manual rates.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of annual settlements, ERISA reports, rate projections, or benefit change increments or decrement.
  • Communicates with sales, administration and claims to assess the rating and administrative impact or benefit and plan changes.
  • Assists in establishing rating and administrative procedures.
  • Participates in major multi-functional teams as underwriting representative.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Requires a BA/BS degree in a related field; 2 - 5 years of dental underwriting experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA or other insurance related courses preferred.
  • Fully insured and ASO funding experience required.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Strong analytical skills, planning and organizing skills required.
  • Familiarity with FIRST and Prime & Complete pricing tool a plus.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Word and Excel required.
