Account Manager IIILocation: Costa Mesa, CA or San Diego, CA

The Account Manager will manage a book of business consisting of pooled accounts (101-300) and non-pooled accounts (300+) for both medical and specialty (ancillary).  Exhibits senior level sales competencies as defined by the business unit.  
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to: Defines and oversees the execution of account management and retention strategy for a defined book of accounts. 
  • Responsible for growing Specialty Business within existing accounts.  Supports pursuit of new business opportunities either directly with a broker/consultant or potential client, or through a team approach with field office sales staff. 
  • Identifies opportunities for penetration sales.
  • Provides support for field sales staff with RFP responses, proposals, client presentations, and underwriting coordination on new business sales opportunities. 
  • Coordinates and controls new business implementation activities. Proactively develops effective business relationships with brokers, consultants, and key decision makers in order to meet or exceed new and renewal sales targets. 
  • Responsible for managing the annual renewal process for accounts, including underwriting negotiation, preparation of renewal analysis, and client presentations. 
  • Trains/mentors lower level Account Management staff. 
  • Identifies competitive situations within assigned accounts or group market, analyzes information, and develops proposals and execution plans to management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the overall value proposition through strong presentation skills
  • Effective communication and sales skills. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Exhibit strong managed care knowledge including: product, utilization analysis, underwriting, contracting and operations
  • Works directly with Sales Account Representatives/Account Service Representatives to assure that all aspects of account service run smoothly. 

Account Manager III

  • Requires a BA/BS plus 4 years’ experience in account management or sales: or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. 
  • Sales license required where necessary.
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Managed care experience is STRONGLY PREFERRED
  • Experience with funding methods (participating contracts, ASO, minimum premium)
  • The Account Manager must demonstrate prior experience either managing accounts for both medical and specialty (ancillary) segments in previous roles either as an account manager or sales executive is strongly/highly preferred.
